Comes to a Halt

January 02, 2026 by Dana Andrews

When the beat of your heart comes to a halt, was it your fault? Did you wish it to be, or did you not see the future would soon cease to be? Did you nurture the soul within you, or did you not see how it needed to be honored like a winter bird that survives the cold and ice? Did you fall prey to the day you surrendered to adversity and the powers that be instead of weathering the storm that would eventually cease to be? After the end of your journey, would anyone remember who you were or only what they could really see?

When grief took over the loss of a lover, did you take to your bed under cover from the dread that became your destiny? Did you try to pretend that their end wasn’t real, merely a nightmare that would steal from your dreams that you dared to last forever more? Did you really lose all of yourself, now sitting on a shelf with the picture frame? What a shame it will gather dust like the rust from iron in the rain?

When you face who you are, not the type of car you drove, the money you love, the house you own, or the jewels that adorn the designer dress you’ve worn just once, because wearing it twice is worse than the price you’ll pay when they all say they’ve seen it before, and you wore it once more?

When the new year’s ball falls, will you rewrite it all, the past and how fast it passed- because time can’t rewind, and you know you can find a better tomorrow, the sorrow almost stole like a thief, you now see is in jail without bail- and you flee from the powers that be as you swiftly set sail?

When you finish this writing, will you relish the sighting of a new you who succeeds in planting new seeds that grow as you sow, in ground that you found when you replaced fear with what’s near you hold dear? Will you replace the old scenes with plans you deem worthy of the time you will find to remind you of how you matter in the joy you scatter?

I’ll now leave this remaining space bare as you write and share and dare to proceed to fuel the feed of the strength you’ll need to be all you know you can be. I hope you’ll elope with the sweet taste of success, hope with prowess, dance in darkness, and engage in the face of age. Will the lines on your skin show the growth from within, and the spark of fire in the hearth of your soul be the sustenance in your bowl? Will your cup overflow when you sup on the honesty, humility, and integrity you find with peace of mind?

Let it flow, because I know that your tomorrow is now, and you’ll find it somehow as you write like a knight bears his sword in the war he will win- because you’re in for the long run, and I’ll be the one to cheer you and hear you scream from the eaves as you succeed to be you. You are enough.
